The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is a large military transport aircraft known for its strategic and tactical airlift capabilities. It's designed to rapidly transport troops and cargo, including heavy equipment, to both main operating bases and forward operating bases. The C-17 can operate from short, austere airfields and is also capable of airdrop missions. A total of 279 Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft were built, according to Simple Flying. Production of the C-17 took place between 1991 and 2015. The aircraft were manufactured by McDonnell Douglas (prior to the merger with Boeing) and later by Boeing.
